What Makes Us Unique

There are a lot of places to buy coffee out there in the wide world, and people are always asking, why they should choose Flatlander coffee. Finally, here in a very condensed form, is your answer, world:

-Local: Flatlander Coffee is roasted in Norman, Oklahoma, and the proceeds are reinvested as close to home as possible to keep building our community. For example, the roaster you'll be seeing a Kickstarter campaign for soon is manufactured just up the road in Oklahoma City by U.S. Roaster's Exchange, and all of our other supplies and materials are sourced as locally as possible. At Flatlander, we strive to think locally and act globally, and we love when we get a chance to get into the community like at Norman's 2nd Friday Circuit of Art every month and by donating to local causes like tornado relief in Moore.

-Quality: Each bag of Flatlander coffee is roasted one at a time by hand. There are no enormous plants roasting thousands of pounds of coffee per day involved here. Instead, a highly skilled roaster actually stands next to the roaster and monitors the coffee as it's transformed from a green bean to the deliciously roasted form with which we're all familiar. Along the way, they're manually adjusting all the parameters of the roast to ensure each bag receives just the right touch. All this follows hours, days, and sometimes weeks of rigorous cupping and sample roasting to produce the right coffee with the right roast.

-Fresh: Because Flatlander is based in Norman and each bag is roasted to order, coffee with our logo is guaranteed to be some of the freshest you've ever tasted. Where we're sold in stores, we regularly check expiration dates to make sure you're getting fresh coffee there, too.

-Sustainable: Flatlander is committed to maintaining the sustainability of the coffee industry as a whole. To that end, we only source green coffee from importers who can prove the farmers received Fair Trade prices at a minimum, and many of our farmers receive as much as 40% above that. Wherever possible, we also choose to support crops grown from more sustainable cultivars of coffee, which means these family farms can be passed down from generation to generation.
